Jim Miller has been an NFL agent since 1997. He has represented athletes from the major BCS conferences including UCLA, Florida State and the University of Maryland to NAIA schools such as Baker University in Kansas. Regardless of where you begin your athletic career we will assist you in achieving your goal of ending it in the professional ranks of your sport.
Jim founded Off-Tackle Sports Management in 1997 after becoming a certified NFL Agent pursuant to the standards required by the National Football League Players Association. Jim had previously attended and graduated from San Diego State University in 1992 with a degree in Business Finance (Real Estate Emphasis) and Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1996 with his Juris Doctorate degree.
Jim is a San Diego native, the son of well known attorney James P. Miller, Sr. (deceased), and philanthropist Diane X. Miller of the East County. He attended Valhalla High School lettering in four sports and was fortunate enough to be able to continue his athletic career at San Diego State University where he earned three Varsity Letters and a national ranking with the Track and Field team (Javelin) before it was disbanded due to Title IX concerns. It was this combination of law, business and competitiveness in Jim’s experiences that lead him to representing the professional athlete.
The sports practice focuses on professional football. However, the firm has represented athletes in a wide range of athletic endeavors including Indy Car Auto racing, boxing, professional tennis, volleyball, soccer and baseball. It is estimated that well over 200 professional athletes have been represented by Jim in various stages of their careers.
Jim has been named as an “expert witness” in California and Texas regarding his experience in sports law and agency. He has lectured at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, California Western School of Law and University of San Diego School of Law in association with sports and agency topics. Jim has been an in studio analyst for KUSI Ch 9, Fox Ch 5, and KGTV (ABC) Ch 10 on sports/legal related topics. In addition he has been interviewed in the national media (ESPN, Legal Broadcast News, ABC) specifically for his lawsuit on behalf of NFL football player Obafemi Ayanbadejo (Ayanbadejo v. ALR Industries Inc., et. al) which was the first California case filed by an NFL player against a supplement manufacturer alleging steroid contamination and mislabeling of product.
Jim is married to Barbara Miller and has three step children. He and his wife together have one child, their daughter Jamie. His younger brother, Damian, is also a SDSU graduate with three boys and one step-daughter. Jim enjoys coaching soccer (National “D” license) and when time allows deep sea fishing and golf. He gives back to his community and is a past board member to the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Foundation (2009-2012) and has been a board member to NFL Hall of Fame running back, Marshall Faulk’s foundation since 2008.
